8 Things Mommies Must Have in Their Bags

Guest post by  Susan Connolly

When you are a mom, you don’t have the luxury of leaving the house with just a handful of items in your purse. This is because when you are out with your kids, you can’t really predict what they are going to need. Even if you only have a short trip planned, you can virtually guarantee that it will be complicated in some way.

As a result, moms always have to head out like they are preparing for the apocalypse. So, if you don’t want to end up without your essentials, you will need some insider information on exactly what to take with you. Fortunately, all of the must-have products for your bag can be found right here.

1. All-Purpose Wet Wipes

It doesn’t matter whether you are travelling with an infant or a much older child. Gentle, baby-safe wet wipes are something that you will never stop needing. When you don’t have access to water and need to clean up a messy kid, these will be the first things that you reach for. So, make sure that there is a steady supply.

As you can imagine, it’s pretty important to keep your wet wipes moist. So, look for a flat plastic travel pack that allows you to store them in a sealed environment. If you can’t find one, look for a re-sealable sandwich bag and store your wet wipes in there.

Now, wet wipes aren’t just for cleaning up your kid. They can be quite useful for sanitizing various surfaces as well. You can make your job a lot easier if you get antibacterial wet wipes that help you to get rid of germs on the spot as well.

2. Tissues

While there is no denying that wet wipes totally rule, you have to have a couple of travel-size packs of tissues as well. As you may have noticed, kid sneezes have a tendency to get rather messy pretty fast. So, unless you are comfortable with using your sleeve, you should keep some tissues around.

Tissues are also great for wiping up your kids’ faces when they are dirty. At the same time, they do a great job of mopping up those inevitable spills that occur all over the place. Not to mention, press a tissue down on a wet stain for a while and you may be able to do some kind of damage control.

3. Re-sealable Plastic Bags

So, once you have used up your wet wipes and tissues to clean up messes, you are left with dirty tissues and wet wipes. This is where re-sealable plastic bags come to the rescue. They can act as a garbage bag when there aren’t any other options around. Since they can be sealed up tight, you don’t have to worry about any liquids or odors escaping from them.

In reality, though, these plastic bags work well in a number of situations. This includes soiled clothes, dirty diapers, and a lot more. Having a couple around will work even better. Just make sure to label them and you will have a place to keep those half-eaten snacks sealed up tight so that they don’t coat the interior of your purse.

4. Feeding Supplies

As a mom, you probably have enough snacks in your bag to last you and your kids a couple of days. However, the one thing that you may not have thought about is feeding supplies! As you are well aware, giving your kids snacks straight out of the packaging can lead to quite a few messes. Proper feeding supplies, though, help to cut down on this risk.

So, what do you need? Naturally, if you have an infant or a younger child with you, the best baby bottles are a must. Since you won’t get a chance to wash out these bottles when you are on the move, make sure to take at least two.

For older kids, opt for a silicone collapsible bowl. These can be flattened down when they are not being used, ensuring that they don’t take up too much space in your bag. However, they can easily be popped out to act as a bowl that will catch all of the crumbs and morsels that miss your toddler’s mouth.

5. Natural Sanitizer

Have you noticed how kids always seem to catch whatever infection is going around? This isn’t just because they have a poor immune system. Rather, it’s due to the fact that kids tend to touch everything around them. Then, failing to wash their hands, they go ahead and stick their fingers in their mouth, rub their eyes, and more.

Well, an excellent way to avoid this is to carry a natural sanitizer around with you. Keep in mind, traditional ones may be a little too harsh for your children’s skin. So, you may want to avoid ones with strong chemicals. Nonetheless, it is still important to find a sanitizer that actually works and kills germs as stated.

Make your life a little easier and look for a sanitizer spray. This way, you can spritz your kid’s hands as well as the surfaces around them. You will then find that using public restrooms is less of a nightmare for you and your kids.

6. Mini First Aid Kit

If you have a toddler, then there is a good chance that they will hurt themselves in one way or another. Fortunately, many of these accidents aren’t all that serious. At the same time, they do need to be tended to. This is why it is a good idea to always carry a mini first aid kit with you in your purse.

Now, it doesn’t need to have too many items, just the top essentials. To begin with, make sure that there are plenty of colorful Band-Aids with you. If they have cartoon characters on them, even better. You will often find that kids stop crying pretty quickly when they have their favorite bandage on hand to tape up their wounds.

Also, opt for some alcohol swabs that can be used to get the dirt out of wounds without too much of an issue. Dealing with splinters or something similar? A pair of tweezers will do the trick. To figure out what should go in your first aid kit, simply think about what your child is most likely to get up to and pack accordingly!

7. Travel-Sized Activity Pack

You can never tell when you and your kids are going to have to spend a significant amount of time outside of the home. This includes being stuck in traffic or standing in life. As you will have experienced, kids can get bored very quickly. When this happens, you can expect whining, tears, tantrums, and more.

To keep everyone calm and happy, take a travel-sized activity pack with you wherever you go. These often come stocked up with enough items and tasks to keep your little one busy for ages. What’s more, this is an excellent option if you would like to avoid too much screen time for your kids.

When choosing these packs, keep your kids’ likes in mind. After all, you are going to need a kit that can hold their attention for an extended period of time. Above all else, make sure that each child has their own individual pack!

8. A Purse Organizer

This may seem like a rather odd item to put on this list, but it is one that you simply can’t do without. As you can see from the above items, you are going to have to pack quite a few things into your bag. However, you also need to know exactly where everything is at a moment’s notice.

After all, you can’t get your kid to hold a sneeze in or keep them waiting when they are hungry. When you have little ones around, you need all of your “mom items” on hand immediately. This is where the purse organizer comes in.

These are often equipped with various compartments and pockets. Thus, you can carefully put each item into its own section. This way, you know exactly where everything is with just one glance. It is then a matter of simply reaching in and pulling out what you need.

You should also keep in mind that purse organizers aren’t just for your mom items. No, they help to keep your things such as phones, wallets, keys, cards, and more in the right place too. You really can’t do without one of these in your purse.

So, there you have it – all the top items that you need to have in your bag if you are a mom. Sure, this list can seem a little overwhelming but you will realize that it isn’t so bad once you have collected these items. Not to mention, you will understand just how important every one of these items is. Once you have gathered everything that you require, you will be able to leave the house, kids in tow, without any worries.
